DESCRIPTION:Friday\, February 16th from 6-9pm join us at Tranter-Sinni Gallery in the Wynwood Arts District for the Opening Reception of Hui Chi Lee’s solo exhibition featuring the Lian Lian series. Exhibition is on view through March 5\, 2018.\n“The second series is titled ‘Lián; Liàn’\, which are two Chinese homophones meaning ‘to connect’ and ‘to enchain’. This series of large-scale drawings explores the tensions and dynamics between how people are connected and how these connections themselves may also serve to enchain. In part\, this series is a reflection on Taiwanese cultural traditions that can seem oppressive in contemporary society. I use the human figure as an agent to prompt discourse on these conditions. I am interested in the obscure and anonymous quality of the human form\, and I want to guide the viewer to consider the subject matter in a critical\, holistic manner. I use color in the subject matter in a symbolic\, metaphorical way. Red symbolizes both a warning and an awakening moment in life\, and hair signifies the duration of a life span and time of which we are often hardly aware – an acknowledgement of the finitude of life but yet a vision of it as somehow endless.” -Hui Chi Lee\nFree and open to the public\, RSVP here.

SUMMARY:Fabien Castanier Gallery presents JonOne: Wanderlust
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, February 17th from 7-10pm Fabien Castanier Gallery is very excited to present the Opening Reception for Wanderlust\, a solo exhibition for artist JonOne\, who will be present at the opening. The exhibition coincides with Miami’s Art Wynwood fair on President’s Day Weekend\, which runs February 15-19; the gallery will showcase work by JonOne\, Speedy Graphito\, the Miaz Brothers\, RERO\, Mark Jenkins\, and Fidia Falaschetti. Wanderlust is the fourth solo exhibition for JonOne with the gallery and his first in Miami\, featuring all new works on canvas by the internationally acclaimed urban contemporary artist. Exhibition on view in the gallery through March 17\, 2018.\nJonOne (b. 1963\, New York) is one of the most influential urban artists of his generation. He grew up in Harlem\, New York\, where he discovered the thrill and personal expression found through painting in the streets and on train cars. A critical moment in the history of graffiti occurred during this time in the 1980s\, and JonOne chose to transport his New York graffiti roots to the streets of Paris when he was only 20 years old. Establishing his life in France\, he has since grown his career and reputation for the past 30 years with a unique style\, unparalleled in his genre.
