DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, October 3rd from 12noon – 3pm ten art galleries will open together for a Progressive Art Brunch — join Dot Fiftyone Gallery\, Emerson Dorsch\, Fabien Castanier Gallery\, Mindy Solomon Gallery\, Fredric Snitzer Gallery\, Pan American Projects\, Piero Atchugarry Gallery\, N’Namdi Contemporary\, Diana Lowenstein Gallery\, and Ascaso Gallery for an afternoon of gastronomic and creative nourishment. Capitalizing on the Sunday brunch concept\, the ten galleries will offer a separate dish at each location that will run simultaneously throughout the day. Facilitated by the creative voices of the galleries involved\, the event will highlight the current programming at each venue and enable visitors a more intimate look at the exhibitions on view. The galleries are located in the Little Haiti and Little River Arts Districts.\nThis event is free and open to the public.

The exhibition\, entitled Symmetry & Soul\, is on view October 23 through November 20 beginning with an all-day opening reception. This is the third solo exhibition for Jan Kaláb at the gallery\, which will highlight new paintings on canvas. This Event is FREE & Open to the Public. \nFor Symmetry & Soul\, Kaláb presents the next evolution of his body of work. Combining the dynamic movement of rounded and abnormally shaped canvases with the distillation of vibrant and incandescent color\, the artist has created paintings which resonate powerfully within the spaces they occupy. The pieces come alive beyond the limits of the canvas as Kaláb plays with the structural elements of his medium\, incorporating three-dimensional effects to render his pieces with depth and harmony.

DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, October 30th from 10am – 12:30pm enjoy Charcoal Drawing at Oolite Arts. This studio course will provide hands-on instruction on the properties and versatility of the charcoal medium. Students will further develop and refine their drawing techniques\, as well as gain an understanding of observational drawing for the purpose of artistic expression. RSVP HERE. $130 / (Members have a 20% discount with code). \nDuring the course\, students will start learning with geometric shapes then move into still lifes and finish with a portrait drawing of master artists such as Caravaggio\, Diego Velázquez\, and Georges Seurat. Students will be asked to create a drawing that touches on different dimensions of these artists’ works\, specifically chiaroscuro (the use of contrasting values). \nOutcomes: \n\nDefine language associated with materials and drawing techniques.\nUnderstanding of value and composition.\nExplore the fundamentals of light\, shadow\, and volume using charcoal on paper\nDiscuss ideas and concepts related to Caravaggio\, Diego Velázquez\, and Georges Seurat’s work.\nFurther understand the processes of artistic expression within the drawn form.\nAnalyze and evaluate completed work.
